DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Duluth’s first cat cafe opened their doors on a ‘purr-fect’ Northern Minnesota day.

Wired Whisker on East Superior Street is officially open for business as of Friday.

It may look like a regular coffee shop, but inside is the Cat Lounge.

Here, rescue animals from Animal Allies in Duluth and Pet Haven out of Saint Paul are waiting for guests to visit.

Since the pets are rescues, employees are never sure which cats will be there to hang out but the paws for the opening week come from a litter of seven kittens.

The owner of Wired Whisker, Misha Smith, wanted to open this business to combine her love of cats and community.

”We ensure all of the cats are vetted and meeting the same standards so that everybody stays nice and healthy, but we are able to serve as that extension to our rescues and help the cats that need us most,” said Smith.

Reservations are needed and the cafe can also host special occasions.

Kaelyn Cain decided to spend her birthday at the cafe for opening day. She said the space was comfortable.

”Even though I have coffee coursing through my veins, I feel relaxed. It’s just a very comfortable environment to be in,” said Kaelyn Cain.

Reservations can be made by clicking here.

Entry costs $8, which is used to care for the animals.
