Duluth Public Library closing Michigan Street entrance
Patrons asked to use Superior Street entrance starting April 6
DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - The Duluth Public Library’s Michigan Street doors will be closed starting April 6.
The downtown branch building will no longer be accessible via its Michigan Street entrance. Patrons are asked to use the entrance on Superior Street instead.

The City of Duluth thanked Duluth Public Library patrons for their cooperation and understanding.
In a response from the City of Duluth, officials said, “Public libraries are ideally designed with only one point of entry. The downtown branch has always had two points of entry to manage, which has proven difficult over time, as staff is often busy conducting programs or research, or assisting patrons. Most library services are conducted on the main floor and second floors. In order to properly greet patrons and assist them, and to control foot traffic, public points of entry are being reduced down to the main entry on Superior Street.”
The statement concludes saying the Michigan Street entry may be used on a case-by-case basis
