DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - The Duluth Police Department recently took delivery of a Lenco Bearcat G3 armored rescue vehicle, the first armored rescue vehicle in the department’s fleet.

Previously, DPD had to outsource from the Superior Police Department to utilize their armored vehicle during high-risk calls for service within the City of Duluth.

“The purchase of this vehicle allows our officers to slow high-risk situations down and to have the protection to do so,” said Chief Mike Ceynowa. “It allows not only the safety of our officers, but also the safety of the community.”

The Bearcat is an emergency response vehicle designed to provide ballistic protection and operational mobility in life-threatening situations. It will also be available to use in surrounding jurisdictions.

The funds to purchase this vehicle were from previous surplus due to unfilled positions within the department.
