The Lake Superior Warriors faced off against their rivals to the north, the Iron Range Warriors.
CLOQUET, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Tired of waiting for Hockey Day Minnesota to swing through Cloquet, the city decided to create their own week-long hockey festival with games taking place on a classic outdoor rink.
The week began with a tribute game honoring veterans in Veterans Park. Local disabled military hockey faceoff between the Lake Superior Warriors and their rivals to the north, the Iron Range Warriors.
Nate Knutson is the organizer of ‘Hockey Day Cloquet’ and says that the veteran’s hockey game is a perfect way to bring people together.
“It’s an unbelievably great cause, helping to rehabilitate a veteran that comes back from service, who can’t get behind something that special,” says Knutson.
Thursday and Friday feature junior games on the outdoor ice for a variety of ages followed by the boys' and girl’s teams for Cloquet-Esko-Carlton on Saturday.
Both the varsity and junior varsity teams are participating against the Sartell Sabres. The Cloquet-Esko-Lumberjacks boys' varsity game at 2 p.m. on Saturday is being broadcast on the MY9 Sports Network.
