UPDATE: Man airlifted following crash with school bus on Highway 53

11:15 p.m. Update: A man was airlifted to Essentia after the crash involving a school bus.
According to the State Patrol, the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. when a van t-boned a school bus, as the bus was crossing Highway 53.
The driver of the bus and four children on board were not hurt.
The driver of the van was airlifted to Essentia with non-life threatening injuries.
Highway 53 traffic was detoured for a time.
HERMANTOWN, MN. (KBJR) - A life link helicopter has landed on the scene of a crash that’s impacting traffic on Highway 53 Tuesday night.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the crash happened between Caribou Lake Road and Solway Road, about two miles north of Hermantown.
According to our KBJR 6 crew on scene it appears to have involved a school bus and another vehicle.
It also appears crews are trying to extricate a victim from the car involved.
No word on how many people were injured in the crash.
