Michelina’s all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner returns to DECC for Grandma’s Marathon weekend
DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - The smell of fresh herbs and pasta filled the DECC Thursday morning as preparations for the annual Michelina’s All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner got underway.
The dinner is designed to feed hungry marathon runners ahead of Saturday’s race.
The event serves about 8,000 plates, so crews were busy cooking nearly 2,000 pounds of dry pasta, traying meatballs and chopping 30 pounds of fresh herbs.
Jerry Carpenter, the DECC’s executive chef, said the dinner is the kickoff to summer in Duluth.
“I think it’s a fun thing for the community,” Carpenter said. “Everybody comes out. The runners are in our town and it fills our hotels and fills our restaurants. And I think that’s a great thing for everybody.”
The spaghetti dinner runs Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. inside the DECC’s Lake Superior Ballroom.
