Law enforcement switch in Moose Lake is ‘going great’
DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - It’s been almost three weeks since the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office officially took over law enforcement duties in Moose Lake.
Back in February, the city and county signed a contract to disband the Moose Lake Police Department giving all law enforcement duties to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office.

The contract not only ensures the sheriff’s office is in charge of the city but it also appointed a group of deputies to patrol Moose Lake full time.
Dan Danielson, the Chief Deputy of the Carlton County Sheriff’s office says the main goal of this switch is to ensure the city continues to get the protection it needs.
“Ultimately, we hope that the residents of the city don’t see any real differences than the change in the squad cars and the color of the uniforms,” Danielson said. “Everything else should largely be what they’re accustomed to as far as police services.”
Danielson also mentioned this transition is going smoothly for the deputies due to the strong relationship between the departments.
The Carlton Country Sheriff’s office will continue to use the old Moose Lake Police phone number and address.
