Employee dies in apparent ‘industrial accident’ in gravel pit near Cloquet

INDUSTRIAL TOWNSHIP, MN -- An investigation is underway after an employee was found dead in a gravel pit in St. Louis County.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened Wednesday afternoon in a Northland Constructors gravel pit near Highway 33 and Sunset Lake Drive in Industrial Township, which is north of Cloquet.

Authorities identified the victim as Brad Wojtysiak, 40, from Culver, MN.

Wojtysiak had been working on a large piece of equipment.

While there were other workers in the general area, authorities say the victim was alone at the time of the incident.

Another employee found him after he had already died.

This death is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Authorities did not shed light on the exact cause of death.
