DULUTH, MN -- The Duluth School District is hosting a “Unity in Our Community” event to welcome students back from summer break.

While most students don’t have to hit the books until Tuesday, September 6, the district is holding their event on Monday, August 29 at Bayfront Festival Park.

The event is free and open to any students, parents, and staff all across the district.

There will be a backpack giveaway, free food, bounce houses, kids races, dunk tanks, music and more.

Superintendent John Magas says it’s a great way to build community, since a focus on relationships is so important right now.

“Students don’t really care what someone knows until they know that they care. So making sure we’re focused on the social, emotional learning needs and the relationship needs that we have, those are some the of strong suits of many of our schools,” Magas said.

Anyone attending the event can park at Bayfront for free along with other transportation hubs around the city.
