HIBBING, MN. (KBJR) - The jury found a Chisholm man guilty in an Iron Range cold case murder trial.

Michael Allen Carbo Jr., now 54, was found guilty Tuesday of the 1986 murder of Nancy Daugherty.

He was charged with raping and murdering the 38-year-old in 1986.

A grand jury indicted Carbo with two counts of first-degree murder while committing criminal sexual conduct in the first degree.

He faces two mandatory sentences of life in prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 30.

While the case went without answers for several decades, two years ago, authorities say new DNA technology helped connect Carbo to the crime.

St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki said Daugherty’s murder prompted one of the most exhaustive investigations in St. Louis County.
