EMBARRASS, MN. (KBJR) - A 39-year-old woman was killed in a car crash near Embarrass Friday night.

First responders were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash near Highway 21 and Highway 135 at 11:32 p.m. Friday.

According to authorities, a car was traveling eastbound on Highway 21.

Officials said it was driven by a 39-year-old woman from Eveleth, who was struck head-on by a pickup truck driven by a 40-year-old man from Virginia, MN, who was driving westbound.

The 39-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

According to a statement from St. Louis County, it appears that the driver of the pickup truck had crossed over the centerline of Highway 21 into the oncoming traffic lane in a curve striking the passenger car.

The driver of the truck received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Duluth hospital for treatment of those injuries.

Authorities said they believe alcohol was a major factor in the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck is facing charges of Criminal Vehicular Homicide, in addition to crimes relating to Driving Under the Influence upon his release from the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the MN State Patrol.
