DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - It was day one of practice for the UMD women’s soccer team on Tuesday. After underachieving during last year’s 2021 campaign, the lady ‘dogs are eager to rewrite their narrative in the NSIC this year.

They welcome 9 freshmen and have 10 seniors coming back. Head coach Greg Cane says no matter the contrast in classes, they are aiming to be on the same page with accountability to ensure that they make the improvements that they’ve been talking about all off-season.

“It’s rewarding for me because this returning group has really taken on the responsibility of that accountability and I think that they’re going to be able to ask it and ya know that has to be an organic thing among the troops,” said Cane.

“One of our big things is keeping a good culture and trying to build each other up and hold each other accountable at the same time. I think a lot of times last year we got into our heads a little bit and that obviously showed on the field, so this year just trying to stay calm and stay together and work our hardest as a team,” said Hansen.

The Bulldogs open up their season at home on August 25th against non-conference Michigan Tech.
