Rice Lake woman involved in hit and run has been identified, charged

DULUTH, MN -- The Rice Lake woman involved in a hit and run that injured three people last Saturday, has been charged with multiple felonies.

Police said it happened around 12:15 a.m. Saturday, July 30, near 5th Ave E. and 4th Street in the Central Hillside neighborhood.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the victims involved and collected pieces of the vehicle’s bumper at the scene.

They were able to find the VIN number underneath the car part to match the description of the driver.

Police identified the driver as Desirae Hansey, 29.

According to the complaint, Hansey injured a 53-year-old man, a 41-year-old man and a 53-year-old man.

In the complaint, officers spoke with the victims who said the driver (Hansey) positioned the vehicle and began to aim it at those standing in the patio area. She then allegedly accelerated the at them, put it in reverse, and then accelerate again.

One victim was hit in the leg and transported to a local hospital and his injuries required surgery.

Another victim was also transported to the hospital, those injuries are unknown.

The third victim sustained injuries to his wrist, knee, elbow and ankle after being struck by the vehicle while trying to move his motorcycle.

Police said video footage of the scene shows the vehicle backing up, accelerating, and driving at the victims on the patio area several times before running into it, and striking the victims.

Hansey showed signs of impairment according to police and had a blood alcohol level of .169.

The 29-year-old was arrested and recently charged with three counts of assault in the second degree and three other felony charges.
