DULUTH, MN -- The Lake Superior Zoo welcomed a new baby Angolan Colobus monkey!

Kero, the mom, and Ndizi, the dad, welcomed the new baby on July 11.

Zookeepers said Kero is doing a great job taking care of her new baby. She has a lot of experience as she has given birth to several babies over the years.

Back in 2019 the zoo welcomed Kasai who is now a darling big sister to the new baby and spends time often grooming her new sibling.

The Angolan Colobus is listed as vulnerable. There are only 88 members of this species in AZA accredited zoos in the world, with four at Lake Superior Zoo.

Baby Angolan Colobus monkeys are born all white and begin to darken around their eyes and slowly change to black over six months.

The zoo will announce the name and gender of the new baby monkey on Thursday, Aug. 4, at 10:15 a.m. via Facebook live.
