KEEWATIN, MN -- U.S. Steel plans to build its new $150 million pellet production facility in Keewatin.
Company leaders were previously deciding between its Keetac or Minntac in Moutain Iron.
They say Keetac’s high-quality ore body and long mine life made it the right choice.
The new system will produce D-R grade pellets, which are a special type of pellet that’s critical for both iron and steelmaking.
Construction is expected to start this fall, a process expected to create 250 jobs.
They’ll need 30 full-time employees when it’s up and running.
