Play ball!: Minnesota Twins hold youth clinic in the Northland

PROCTOR, MN. (KBJR) - The Minnesota Twins taught kids the fundamentals of baseball in Proctor on Sunday.

It’s all part of the baseball team’s PlayBall Youth Clinics program.

“I just really love baseball,” Myles, a clinic participant said.

Myles said that the clinic prepares kids to play in actual games.

“It’s really cool because they’re teaching the fundamentals of baseball,” he said, “some kids don’t get that opportunity.”

Andy Donahue, the President of the Proctor Area Youth Baseball Board, said the PlayBall program educates kids on hitting, pitching and fielding.

“We really looked at this opportunity to really help our youth develop learning about the game,” he said.

Donahue said the program is completely free for kids who want to play.

“All they need to do is just bring themselves and a glove and come and enjoy the game that the Twins have been graciously able to sponsor,” he said.

He said that most of the kids were just excited to learn more about the game of baseball.

“Baseball is a growing sport, kids love the game, and they’re excited to be here today,” Donahue said.

Myles was also excited to learn from the pros, and get in some batting practice.

“Even getting a little bit of time to learn new things,” he said, “I really like that.”
