DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - Hermantown hockey star Zam Plante was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
He was the 150th overall pick, 11 spots ahead of where his dad Derek Plante was drafted back in 1989.
Zam will return to Hermantown for his senior season, looking to defend their 2022 state championship. He is also a Bulldog hockey commit.
UMD had two players drafted on day two of the NHL Entry Draft. Incoming freshman Cole Spicer was taken in the fourth round by the Boston Bruins, while sophomore forward Dominic James went in the sixth round to the Chicago Blackhawks.
