Grand Rapids avenges title game loss with win over Mahtomedi, Duluth Marshall and South Ridge fall

DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - The Grand Rapids baseball team earned a big win over Mahtomedi in the Class AAA state quarterfinals on Tuesday night.

The unseeded Thunderhawks shut out the Zephyrs 2-0, avenging their loss in the 2021 state championship game at Target Field.

Pitcher Myles Gunderson pitched a complete game shutout with just three hits allowed and nine strikeouts. Up next, they’ll take on Benilde-St. Margarets in the state semifinals on Wednesday at 2:30p.m.

Elsewhere, Duluth Marshall fell 13-2 against Roseau in the AA quarterfinals, and South Ridge fell 10-4 to Sacred Heart in the A quarterfinals.
