Viking Cruise Ship doesn’t make scheduled stop in Bayfield Wisconsin
BAYFIELD, WI-- Viking Cruise Ship, also known as “Octantis” scheduled to make a stop in Bayfield Wisconsin Tuesday morning just kept going.
Bayfield and the Apostle Islands Facebook page said high winds made it impossible for the ship to come to the shore of Lake Superior.
According to a spokesperson with Apostle Rentals, the high winds were near 20-40 miles per hour.
The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce reported waves of 5 to 10 feet which also would have prevented passengers from boarding smaller boats from the ship.
The 660-foot-long cruise ship can carry 400 passengers and 250 crew members.
The ship stopped in Duluth Monday morning around 6 a.m., making her way under the Aerial Lift Bridge.
The Octantis will be back in Bayfield June 28.
