Severe weather possible through Memorial Day; Days of dry weather ahead

TONIGHT: The first of three days of potential severe weather has ended with no severe weather reported for Saturday. For the evening, it will remain mostly cloudy to overcast with patchy fog along the north shore. Winds will continue to be breezy from the east between 10-20 mph gusting up to 25 mph. Lows will fall back to the upper 40s and lower 50s. An isolated shower might develop, but it should remain overall dry for tonight before rounds of storms arrive Sunday and Monday.

SUNDAY: The next round of storms looks to develop during the morning hours around the International Falls area. The severe threat won’t come until later Sunday night as a strong system moves northeast towards the Northland. The main threats with these storms are strong winds exceeding 60+ mph, large hail, flooding, and possibly a brief spin-up of a tornado. Temperatures will be very different throughout the area with upper 70s and lower 80s in the southern part of the Northland while areas in northern Minnesota will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Winds will come from the east between 10-20 mph gusting up to 30 mph. Some areas will even see some sunshine especially further away from Lake Superior. Lows will fall back to the upper 40s and lower 50s.

MONDAY: On Memorial Day during the early morning hours will consist of potentially strong storms. The rain will briefly come to an end before the last round of storms comes Monday night. That will be the last chance for severe weather with the same threats possible as Sunday. Highs will be much warmer due to a strong warm front in the mid to upper 70s with some areas reaching mid 80s. Winds will change from the east to the south as the warm front moves through with winds between 15-25 mph gusting up to 35 mph. The cold front will come through Monday night cooling the Northland back to seasonal temperatures and bringing the last round of storms. After the system moves through, dry weather will stay around.
