DULUTH, MN-- A Duluth man will spend almost 8 years in prison for illegally possessing a firearm as a felon.

According to court documents, Jesse William Peterson, 40, possessed a .38-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver.

Back in October 2020, Duluth Police attempted to arrest him at a Piedmont residence on an outstanding warrant.

Peterson refused to exit or comply with officers and shot in their direction, according to police.

After a two-hour stand-off, Peterson was taken into custody and officers found the loaded revolver in the bathroom where Peterson had been barricading himself.

Officers also found 13.76 grams of methamphetamine, 11.13 grams of cocaine, 38 doses of LSD, $5,826 in cash, and 11 live rounds of .38-caliber ammunition.

Because Peterson has prior felony convictions in St. Louis County, he is not allowed to own a gun or ammo at any time.

Peterson pleaded guilty to one count of illegal possession of a firearm on August 24, 2021.

Peterson has been sentenced to 95 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
