Noah Cates signs entry-level NHL contract with Flyers
DULUTH, MN. (KBJR) - Former UMD men’s hockey captain Noah Cates has officially signed with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Cates was drafted by the Flyers in the 5th round (137th overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. His deal is a two-year, entry level contract that begins with the remainder of the 2021-22 season.
He served as the Bulldog captain for two seasons, and will join his brother Jackson in the Flyers organization. Jackson Cates has appeared in 11 games with the Flyers this season, and is also a former Bulldog.
In Noah’s four seasons at UMD, he scored 39 goals and tallied 99 total points in 139 games played. He helped lead UMD to two Frozen Fours (2019, 2021), and appeared on the 2022 USA Olympic Hockey team.
He is set to make his NHL debut with the Flyers on Tuesday, March 29 in Minnesota against the Wild.
