According to the Virginia Fire Department, people living in the Columbia and Rouchleau buildings were originally evacuated around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when the heat malfunctioned.

Temperatures were well below zero at the time.

As of Thursday, they said crews have been working around the clock to restore heat.

They said they are not sure when the problem will be fixed.

147 residents and 100 pets were displaced.

Some are staying with family while others are staying in hotels.
