Thousands of dollars raised to help injured sled dogs hit by snowmobiler
BAYFIELD, WI (KBJR 6) - A person operating a snowmobile hit a dog sledding team Saturday evening, leaving two of the pups injured and in need of medical attention.
Ryan Redington, a musher known for his appearances in the Iditarod and John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, had a snowmobile swerve and strike his mushing team, hitting the dogs.
The driver of the snowmobile allegedly sped up and steered into the team without stopping.
The team was just three miles from home.
The injured dogs, Willy and Wildfire went to Blue Pearl emergency vet in Duluth Saturday.
Willy survived with lacerations and a badly bruised foreleg.
Wildfire’s left rear leg is broken in three places.
Given the circumstances of the dogs, Sarah, Redington’s training partner put together a GoFundMe page to help with medical costs.
The goal is set for $9,000.
The report filed with the Bayfield County Sheriff’s Office stated the accident happened on the Tri-Counties corridor between Hughes and Iron River.
No description of the driver or the snowmobile was given.
